New gallery opens with exhibit by Vietnam veteran
Augusta State University’s new art gallery in Washington Hall will feature the artwork of Vietnam veteran Richard J. Olsen from Jan. 11 to Feb. 1. On Thursday, Feb. 1, there will be an artist talk at 4 p.m. in 170 University Hall, followed by a closing reception at 5 p.m. in the new gallery.
Mr. Olsen has presented his works in group exhibitions at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Hanoi, Vietnam; the Museum of Fine Arts in Ho Chi Ming City, Saigon; the Peace Museum in Chicago; and the Lyndon House Arts Center in Athens, Ga.
He has had solo exhibitions at the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum in Chicago and Mercury Art Works in Atlanta.
Mr. Olsen received his bachelor’s degree and a master’s of fine arts degree in painting and printmaking from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. For more information, call ASU’s Department of Art at 706-667-4888.
