Student paper accepted to multiple conferences
Augusta, Ga. – Darryl Nettles just thought he was completing an assignment and hoping for a good grade. What he received was international recognition for his work. The Augusta State University graduate student in the Public Administration program recently penned a paper that was accepted for presentations at three separate conferences.
Mr. Nettles wrote the paper “Liberia: Study of Liberian Government and its Relationship to American Government” as an assignment for Randall Miller’s History, Scope, and Practice of Public Administration class during the spring 2007 semester. But his work caught the attention of those in charge of The Second International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences after he submitted the paper online.
“I was really surprised and shocked when it was accepted by other people and conferences,” says Mr. Nettles.
Although he was unable to attend the July 10–13 conference held at the University of Granada in southern Spain, the paper’s acceptance allowed him to apply for publication in The International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. The paper is currently still in the refereeing stage to determine if it will be published.
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History accepted the paper for its 92nd Annual Convention, Oct. 3–7 in Charlotte, N.C. Also, the Georgia Political Science Association Annual Conference accepted the paper for its Nov. 15–17 event in Savannah. Mr. Nettles plans to attend both conferences and will present his paper at a yet-to-be-scheduled special event on the ASU campus during the fall semester.
