Series to focus on applied psychology
Augusta, Ga. – Each Friday in October, Augusta State University’s Department of Psychology will be hosting events that are part of a series focused on applied psychology. Four informative speakers will highlight the series taking place at noon in W1002 Science Hall with a look into practical application of clinical psychology.
* Oct. 5 – Adrian Janit, assistant professor of psychology at ASU, will speak on Treating Phobias with Fiction: How Narrative Interferes with Phobic Beliefs.
* Oct. 12 – Avarm H. Mack, assistant professor of clinical psychiatry and director of medical student education at Georgetown School of Medicine, will speak on Psychosis and Homicide: Psychopathology in New York City Adolescents Accused of Murder or Manslaughter.
* Oct. 19 – Matthew Schumacher, adjunct professor of psychology at Aurora University, will speak on Is suicide preventable? Understanding Warning Signs and Effective Treatment.
* Oct. 26 – Lorraine Braswell, staff psychologist and military sexual trauma coordinator at the VA Medical Center as well as assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Georgia, will speak on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Sexual Trauma Treatment.The series is an annual event sponsored by ASU’s Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences as well as the Department of Psychology. It was started more than 25 years ago, and last year’s focus was on aggression and conflict. The event is free and open to the public.
