New Appointments on Campus
A reorganization of leadership roles is being proposed to divide the responsibilities of Dr. Fred Barnabei, vice president for business and student affairs, following his retirement this April. Mr. N. Dan Whitfield, assistant vice president for business services, will be promoted to the position of vice president for business operations, and Dr. Joyce Jones, dean of students, will become vice president for student services and dean of students.
No additional positions are anticipated in this realignment, however, Mr. Karl Munschy, director of the bookstore, will assume new responsibilities as director of business services. The plan must be approved by the Board of Regents prior to it taking effect. In announcing the news at the monthly faculty meeting, President William A. Bloodworth, Jr., credited the reorganization to the effort of Dr. Barnabei, who, "developed such good and capable people around him that we can reorganize in this manner. His departure will certainly be a loss to us, but what he leaves behind will be our gain."
Mr. Whitfield is a graduate of ASU. He was president of the specialty papers division of Kimberly-Clark and president of U.S. Operations of Schweitzer-Mauduit International, a spin-off from Kimberly-Clark. Dr. Jones came to ASU in 1998 from the Carter Center in Atlanta, where she was director of educational programs.
In other personnel moves, following the retirement of Mr. Henry Thomas as manager of the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theater, Dr. Quentin Kuyper, director of the conservatory, will be taking on the responsibilities for managing the theatre on an interim basis.
