Employer Expos
The most recent statistics available from the Georgia Department of Labor indicate that the unemployment rate for the local area is nearly six percent, while the state of Georgia’s rate hovers around four percent. In fact, for every month that statistics were available in 2004, the CSRA had a higher unemployment rate than the state as a whole.
To address the problem and bring potential employers and employees together, Augusta State University will host two career expos next month. The first, an Employer Expo, is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The second, an Expo for Educators, will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. Both events will be held at the Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wrightsboro Road. The Employer Expo is open to ASU students and alumni and the Educator Expo is open to the public.
The employer expo will feature more than 50 employers, ranging from local television stations and medical centers to the Internal Revenue Service. The Educator Expo, designed for those who wish to pursue a career in education, will feature local school systems, as well as representatives from school systems across Georgia and South Carolina.
Attendees for both expos are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes. For a current list of employers planning to participate, check the Career Center’s website at www.aug.edu/career_center.
