Diamond Jags experience stellar season
Augusta State catcher Sam Barth established a new NCAA Division II record when he lined a one-out single to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Jaguars' 5-3 victory over city rival Paine College at Lake Olmstead Stadium on February 23. With the hit, Barth, a senior from Bogart, Ga., extended his hitting streak to 47 games, breaking the previous mark of 46 set by Craig Sizemore of Lenoir Rhyne during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
The Diamond Jags are currently ranked 11th in the nation in a poll by Collegiate Baseball magazine released February 21. The team was previously ranked fourth—the highest ranking in school history. Their schedule calls for 12 home games in March and is included in the calendar items of ASU Report. It is also available on the website of the athletics department, along with other news and photographs, www.aug.edu/athletics.
