ASU Recognizes Co-Op Student of the Year

Augusta State University recognized its Co-Op Student of the Year at the annual co-op awards luncheon Friday, March 22, at the Augusta Country Club.

Phillip Clark Jr., a computer science major employed at Westinghouse Savannah River Company, was honored as the program’s top student.

Clark, of North Augusta, has participated in the co-op program since May 2000. His responsibilities include designing and implementing databases, developing software, providing systems and technical support, troubleshooting software, designing and writing training manuals, and assisting in training sessions.

He has worked on three major projects for the Emergency Operations Center, one involving security and reliability requirements that require daily reports to hundreds of Westinghouse and Department of Energy officials.

“He is quick to learn, requires little instruction, communicates well and possesses strong attention to detail. His products have improved productivity and efficiency. These improvements translate to financial savings and more reliable emergency preparedness and emergency response,” said a Westinghouse representative.

A committee of university and employer representatives selects the Co-Op Student of the Year.
