Phi Kappa Phi presents third annual Research and Fine Arts Conference

The third annual Phi Kappa Phi Student Research and Fine Arts Conference was held Wednesday, March 20, in the Science Building at Augusta State University.

The program provided students a setting to showcase their studies. More than 50 students participated.
“It’s a venue for students to share the products of their research and other artistic and scholarly efforts,” said Steve Hobbs, ASU psychology professor and alumni panel chair.

Students presented their research in two sessions. Topics included sociology, physical science, communication, student learning, education, political science, and writing. An alumni panel of local business men and women began the conference with a discussion of how their undergraduate education helped their careers.

“We wanted to share the ways in which our undergraduate scholarly activities benefited us in our
personal and professional lives,” Hobbs said.

Other alumni panel members were: Emma Sinkfield, executive director, Quality of Life Association for Warren County; Lisa Wiggins, research project coordinator, Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior, Medical College of Georgia; Elizabeth Kemple Adams, managing editor, The Augusta Chronicle; Belle Henry, project manager, Morris Digital Works; and Tom Lavin, research assistant IV, MCG.

A poster presentation of research topics, an independent film, and a musical performance were also held.

The program was free and open to the public.
