Cullum Lecture Series continues with Dr. Selima Sultana

The Cullum Lecture Series focusing on South Asia will continue with speaker Selima Sultana Thursday, April 1, at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. in Butler Lecture Hall.

Dr. Sultana is an assistant professor of geography at Auburn University in Alabama. She earned a PhD in geography with concentrations in urban geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of Georgia in 2000 and received a master’s degree in urban planning from Georgia State University in 1993. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geography in 1987 and 1989 from Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr. Sultana’s research background is in urban planning, and more specifically, the contemporary processes or urban economic restructuring and social change and sustainable urban development, in which she uses GIS technology to address urban problems.

As the speaker for Thursday’s Cullum Lecture Series event, Dr. Sultana will present Bangladesh: A Small Land, But With Large Dreams at 11:30 a.m., and The Status of Women in Bangladesh: The Dark and Lighter Sides of Bengali Nationalism at 7 p.m.
