Staff Profile: Ronald Lunk

Ronald LunkAfter receiving a bachelor’s degree in history and then a master’s degree in public administration, Ronald Lunk decided that a career in history preservation was not the path he wanted to pursue.

“I was more interested in campus life and what was going on there,” says Mr. Lunk, associate director of the Office of Student Activities. “At the University of West Georgia—where I received my degrees—the director of student activities suggested that I get into higher education, and so I began putting my résumé together.”

The advice led him to apply for a position in the student activities office at Georgia College & State University. He was heavily involved in campus life as a student, which gave him the experience he needed to become the assistant director of student activities at GCSU.

“I was president of the Student Government Association, a resident assistant, an undergraduate hall director, in charge of the Dance Marathon, and a member of the fraternity Pi Kappa Pi,” Mr. Lunk says. “I was in several organizations as a student.”

While at GCSU, Mr. Lunk worked with Eddie Howard, director of the Office of Student Activities, for a year before Mr. Howard came to Augusta State. Eight months ago, Mr. Howard hired Mr. Lunk as the associate director of the Office of Student Activities.

“I really like Augusta State because it’s more open and there’s room for growth,” says Mr. Lunk.

He is responsible for Pig Out, the Jaguar Activities Board, all 75 of the student organizations on campus, Greek Life, community service and volunteerism, and leadership programs, and he chairs the Who’s Who and Homecoming Committees.

“Pig Out is my favorite event because when I first heard about it, I thought, ‘Okay. We’re going to have a big cookout.’ But it’s not just about that,” he says. “It’s about bringing the students, faculty, and staff together, and it really is amazing to me.”

When he’s not on campus, Mr. Lunk enjoys spending time with family and friends. The Cartersville, Ga., native also loves watching movies, hiking and camping, and dabbling in photography.
