ASU welcomes new students starting August 10

Week of Welcome
2002 Week of Welcome cookout

Fall at Augusta State University is always about much more than cooler temperatures and turning leaves. Traditionally the busiest time on campus, fall semester always signifies new life at ASU. That new life comes in the form of new students. To date, more than 1,400 students have been accepted for admission fall semester. President Bloodworth will welcome new students at the New Student Convocation on Sunday, Aug. 10.

This year’s ceremony will be at 3 p.m. at the Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wrightsboro Road. After the ceremony, students will have the opportunity to visit with university representatives and attend information sessions on campus resources and activities.

New classes won’t be the only things happening on campus when fall semester starts on Aug. 18. The Week of Welcome officially begins with S.O.S day at Washington Hall. There, new students will have an opportunity to find out about ASU’s wide variety of student organizations and services first-hand.

Activities are planned throughout the week, including a student services expo with representatives from the Career Center, financial aid, and other campus offices. The Jaguar Activities Board and the athletic department will also co-sponsor a cookout for students as well as an athletic exhibition beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21. Students can gather on the lawn between Allgood Hall and the Science Building for hamburgers and an opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and student government representatives. Athletic teams will also be on hand to show off their skills.

The week concludes on Friday, Aug. 22, with ASU Spirit Day. Faculty and staff can show off their spirit by wearing their favorite ASU shirt. The department or office that shows the most spirit in welcoming students throughout the week will receive special recognition.
