The annual A Day for Augusta State University campus campaign will kick off at Fall Convocation, beginning at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, in the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. The celebration will continue with pizza and ice cream at 11:30 a.m. at the Maxwell Alumni House for the I Gave to A-Day the First Day event. Faculty and staff who make their pledge or donation on the first day will also receive a t-shirt. The annual A-Day program focuses on fundraising and friendraising for ASU. Donations to the campaign can be on a restricted or unrestricted basis. Unrestricted funds are used where the need is the greatest, and they fund projects such as faculty development programs, the Cullum Lecture series, equipment, technology and construction projects, employee events, scholarships, and more. Restricted funds are used to fund specific projects or activities specified by the donor. The chair for this year's campus campaign is Dr. James Garvey, professor of English. The chair for the community campaign this year will be David S. "Deke" Copenhaver, who also chaired the community drive last year. According to Ginger Chew, director of annual giving, last year's campus campaign raised $122,040. The goal for this year's campus campaign is $110,000. The community goal is $390,000. The annual A-Day campaign culminates on Friday, Oct. 8, with an alumni barbecue and celebration.
