University Hall Crews are working daily to finish in time for the start of fall semester. Landscaping is being finished and the furniture and occupants should be moved in by August 10. Some desks couldn't be moved in earlier, because they were being used in the older buildings. The front entrance will open on August 7, at which time the parking lot adjacent to the Fine Arts Center and the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre will re-open. The University Hall parking lot will be opened on August 11. The new fountain at the main entrance is expected to be in place by August 31. Current moves Moves scheduled for the first week in August: Media Services, Department of Nursing, and College of Education will be moving into University Hall. The Research Center is moving to the third floor of Allgood Hall. Counseling and Testing will be moving on the August 11 to the former Writing Center inside the quad. Demolition Safety is the paramount concern and is being addressed in every aspect of the demolition. The work is being performed by environmental professionals who are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of campus. Work will begin on the inside of the building with removal of the floor and ceiling tiles, followed by removal of the roof panels. While the work is progressing on the roof removal, the entire building will be water-misted to prevent particles from becoming airborne. Also, the roof panels, which weigh about 1200 lbs. each, will be lifted off with a crane. The buildings will be addressed in the following order: Markert Hall, old Science Building, Hardy Hall, Skinner Hall, Classroom Office Building (COB), and Butler Hall. To protect pedestrian traffic from construction, a 12-foot wooden fence will be constructed along the walk. Once the environmental clean-up is completed, the demolition will follow. Bricks that are not being used for other university purposes will be crushed and used as base for the parking lot. Student Housing The bonds were priced on August 2, and the closing on the bonds and property is expected to be on August 19, after which construction will begin. The privatized project, made possible by the ASU Foundation, will be developed by Ambling Development Company.
