The lazy days of summer are almost over. Fall semester, traditionally the busiest time on campus, is just around the corner. But before it kicks off and fall classes begin on August 16, more than 1,000 new students will be welcomed to the university at the annual New Student Convocation on Sunday, August 8. This year's ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. at the Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wrightsboro Road. After the formal ceremony, students will have the chance to meet ASU faculty and attend information sessions with representatives from student affairs and other campus offices. Students will also be welcomed back to campus with a week of fun activities traditionally known as Week of Welcome. The activities get started Monday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m. with S.O.S. Day (Student Organizations and Services) in Washington Hall until 12:30 p.m. Representatives of student groups will be on hand to give out information. A Jaguar Spirit cookout is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, August 19, on the lawn of the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre.
