The annual A Day for Augusta State University, a campaign of fundraising and friendraising for ASU, will kick off when the campus campaign is introduced at Fall Convocation, beginning at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, in the Maxwell Theatre. Dr. James Garvey will again be chairing the campus campaign, which has set its goal at $115,000 this year. Faculty and staff who donate on the first day will earn a t-shirt and an A Day tumbler. Those who donate on the first day can also enjoy a “Build Your Own Burger” lunch sponsored by Outback Steakhouse between noon and 2 p.m. in the Grove. According to Michele Ellington, director of annual giving, last year’s campus campaign raised $122,000. Donations to the campaign can be on a restricted or unrestricted basis. Unrestricted funds are used where the need is the greatest, and they fund projects such as faculty development programs, equipment, technology projects, employee events, scholarships, and more. Restricted funds are used to fund specific projects or activities specified by the donor. The community drive kicks off on Thursday, September 22, with the President’s Club Luncheon. The chair for the community campaign this year will be Ernie Sizemore, a current member of the foundation board of trustees. The community goal is $300,000, making a goal of $415,000 for the A Day campaign. The annual drive culminates on Friday, Oct. 7, with an alumni barbecue and celebration in the campus quadrangle. This year’s event will feature award-winning barbecue cooked on-site by alumnus James Britt and live entertainment by the Cadillac Stepbacks.
