ASU announces new faculty members

Joining the ASU faculty this fall will be two new department chairs. Dr. David K. Saunders will head the Department of Biology and Dr. Paula J. Dohoney will chair the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science.

Dr. Saunders, who will replace former chair, Dr. Emil Urban, comes to ASU from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, where he was a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. His research interests include physiological ecology and blood viscosity and hematology in vertebrates. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, a master’s degree in zoology from Emporia State, and a doctoral degree in physiology from Kansas State University.

Dr. Dohoney, who will replace former chair Dr. Michael O’Connor, comes to ASU from the Department of Kinesiology at Mississippi State University, where she was an assistant professor and coordinator of graduate and undergraduate physical education teacher education programs. She received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Tennessee Tech University, a master’s of education from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, and a doctor of arts degree in physical education pedagogy from Middle Tennessee State University.
