“This means that our programs have met the most rigorous national standards and that our graduates have the knowledge, skills, and the disposition to succeed in the classroom,” says Dr. Thomas E. Deering, dean of the College of Education. All of the college’s programs received 100 percent accreditation with no conditions. NCATE officials visited ASU in the spring and commended faculty on a job well done. Of particular interest to NCATE visitors was the process by which students demonstrated their skill levels with presentations of their portfolios. “That was evidence of their work, which demonstrated that they have mastered the skills,” Dr. Deering says. But the work isn’t over. According to Dr. Deering, accreditation is a continuous assessment of standards. “It’s an ongoing process,” he says. “We’re already preparing for the next visit. We’re continuously looking at the realignment of courses, updating, surveying our graduates, and making changes. We live NCATE.” Other News: Graduation | Cullum | NCATE | Social Work Degree | Construction Update | Campus Notables | Photographic Review 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Faculty Spotlight | Staff Spotlight | Calendar | Birthdays | Quiz | Table of Contents
