Lady Jags take second
By Joey Warren
Augusta State finished second in the annual America’s Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in November, competing against six other Division I teams. Georgia State University captured the lead on the first day and ended the tournament with a nine-shot victory over the Lady Jaguars.
Senior Amanda Smith claimed medalist honors, scoring 146 (74-72) for the two-day tournament. Her victory marks the second straight year a Lady Jaguar has captured medalist honors in ASU’s home event. Last fall, senior Lauren Smith claimed medalist honors with a one-shot victory.
“I’m very proud of Amanda for hanging in there and playing so solidly,” says head coach Laura Coble. “She deserves to enjoy this kind of success with the time and effort she puts into her game.”
Joining Ms. Smith in the top-20 finishes were sophomore Emilie Geury who tied for fourth place, redshirt freshman Sarah Mooney who tied for 14th place, and junior Kristen Bragg who tied for 18th place. The tournament marked the end of the fall schedule for the Lady Jags. They open their spring slate Feb. 18 with the Papa John’s Collegiate Championship at Don Shula Golf Club in Miami, Fla.
