Reese Library and Media Services sponsored a fundraiser for Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Services in November and raised a total of $804, which is a 28 percent increase from last year.
In September, Louise Shivers, communications and professional writing, was on the faculty of The Third Literary Homecoming at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., where she gave the lecture, How I was influenced by eastern North Carolina in the writing of my novels. She also was a member of a panel discussing Southern Women Writers.
Steve Clements, communications and professional writing, lectured at the 18th Annual Southern Regional Entertainment and Sports Law Conference held in Cancun, Mexico, in November. His break-out sessions were titled Make It Your Courtroom.
ASU’s 2006-2007 Staff Advisory Council was announced in November. The members include: Mark Brown, special projects; Janice Deloach, information technology services; Michelle Deloach, Reese Library; Susie Ennis, business office; Ricky Green, Jason Gribek, Russ Lewis, and Juanita Long, physical plant; Tamara Martin, business office; Dip Metress, athletics, Dane Scarff, biology; Lasharn Thomas, information technology services; Lisa Webb, business operations; and Wes Zamzow, development and alumni relations. The newly elected officers for the council are: Tamara Martin, secretary; Dane Scarff, vice chair; and Lisa Webb, chair.
A book fair to benefit ASU’s Born to Read Literacy Center was held November 10-12 at Barnes and Nobel Booksellers. A percentage of purchases was donated by the store during this three-day event upon presentation of a free ASU voucher.
Wayne Lord, educational leadership, counseling, and special education, received the National Association for Gifted Children’s President’s Award in November at their annual national conference in Charlotte. The award was presented in recognition of his support of and positive influence on gifted education policies.
Jurgen Brauer, business administration, presented the paper, Making Peace, Preventing War: Engineering, Economics, and Evaluation, at the annual meeting of the American Evaluation Association in Portland.
Charles Jackson, educational leadership, counseling, and special education, has been selected as a member of the Board of Regents training team for faculty in the University System of Georgia who will be teaching a new set of courses offered in Area F of the education core.
Rick Pukis, communications and professional writing, discussed filmmaking, the television/cinema track program, and the upcoming Monday Night Film Series on ASU’s 30-minute radio program, ASU Reports-On Air in November.
Paul Harris, political science, made a presentation at Georgia Southern University on the contributions immigrants make to—and the toll they take on—Georgia and the country.
Karen Wish, kinesiology and health science, talked about healthy eating and how to shed those holiday pounds on the university’s 30-minute radio program, ASU Reports-On Air in November.
Paul Gustafson, kinesiology and health science, presented The Glycemic Index, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Your Health at the state convention of the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Edgar LaMotte, media services, has completed the Master of Public Administration degree program at ASU. He will be presented his diploma at commencement ceremonies in the spring.
