“Seeing the six old academic buildings being torn down was a memorable moment for me,” he says. He, along with other members of physical plant, was responsible for the buildings’ maintenance. The respect he receives from everyone on campus says much to him about the university. “As employees, we are all treated equally regardless of what department we work in. We’re not just a number; we’re part of a family,” he says. Mr. Cuebas says that through the years, ASU has become just that, an extended family. He and his wife, Vickie, have a daughter, Stephanie, who is currently a freshman at the College of Charleston. Stephanie was a 10-year classical guitar student of the ASU Conservatory program. “I’ve always enjoyed music, I even play the guitar. I began to enjoy classical guitar after Stephanie began to play it,” he says. Also a musician, Mr. Cuebas began playing the guitar at the age of 14. He was a member of the band Merging Traffic. He played with the local rock and roll band from Aiken for four years performing in clubs and fraternity houses. His dedication to his family also extends to how he performs at work. Mr. Cuebas has been named Employee of the Quarter for the third quarter. “I take pride in my job and I don’t mind going beyond the call of duty to do whatever needs to be done,” he says.
