ASU writer-in-residence back on campus

Louise Shivers, ASU's writer-in residence is back on campus and settled in Allgood Hall.

Her first novel, Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail (which was named by USA TODAY as best first novel of the year), will be re-released in 2003 on its 20th anniversary. Details of a publicity tour will be announced at a later date.

Filmmakers are considering the screenplay for her second novel A Whistling Woman.
Her memoir of World War II, My Shining Hour is with a publisher. She is currently at work on a novel set in the Civil War years in rural North Carolina. The title Leaving Cold Harbor and the inspiration for the book came when her brother discovered, while doing genealogy, that their great-grandfather had been captured at the battle of Cold Harbor. He died and was buried in Elmira Prison, N.Y.

Shivers welcomes the chance to meet with students and to speak to classes.
