A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, as the physical education/athletic complex building is dedicated as the Christenberry Fieldhouse in honor of former president George A. Christenberry.

Christenberry was ASU’s sixth president, serving from 1970 to 1986. Under his leadership, Reese Library was funded and built, several new degree programs were added, and the university obtained the Forest Hills campus and golf course. Christenberry was also key in obtaining funding for the physical education/athletic complex building.

The $9 million building was begun in 1988 and finished in 1991. It contains a nearly 3,000-seat arena, weight training facilities, classrooms, a human physiology lab, an indoor track, and offices for the departments of athletics and kinesiology and health science.
