Anthony Kellman, languages, literature, and communications, gave a poetry reading at Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library in Decatur. One of Professor Kellman's long poems, A Final Battle, has recently been published in COLORING BOOK, an anthology of fiction and poetry by multicultural writers. The book features 85 writers from around the world.

Louise Shivers, writer-in-residence, has contributed three recipes to The New Great American Writers Cookbook.

Kjirsten “K.J.” Ogburn has been named the Physical Plant Employee of the Quarter. Kjirsten, a native of Minnesota, has been the architectural drafter at ASU for six months. After work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs. When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Kjirsten says, “I love all of the people I work with.”

Ralph Watkins, sociology, was the guest speaker at Fort Gordon’s annual luncheon honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at the Gordon Club on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Jennifer Onofrio, fine arts, took part in the Morris Museum of Art’s Terra Incognita: Contemporary Artists Lecture Series on Jan. 8.

Michael Bishku, history, anthropology, and philosophy, is the author of Turkey and Egypt Since the 1950’s: Rivals for Influence in the Middle East, which appears in the current issue of the Journal of South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.

Wayne Mixon, history, anthropology, and philosophy, participated in a symposium held in Moreland, Ga., that commemorated the centennial of the birth of the writer Erskine Caldwell. Dr. Mixon was interviewed by The New York Times for an article on Caldwell that appeared in its Dec. 17 issue.

The Lady Jaguars basketball team earned its first national ranking in school history and is now the 21st team in the country in the latest ESPN/WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Jurgen Brauer, College of Business Administration, presented a paper in January, On the Production of Peace, which was later published in the Daily Times of Pakistan.

Norman Prinsky, languages, literature, and communications, is featured in an interview at www.60sgaragebands.com about the group, The Rumors. He also published an article titled [David Henry Hwang's] The Dance and the Railroad, which appeared in the four-volume literary reference set, Masterplots II: Drama Series, Revised Edition (Salem Press, 2004). The article is in volume 1, pages 375-379.

Wendy Turner, history, presented a paper at the national conference of the Phi Alpha Theta, in New Orleans during January titled The Mind is in the Brain: Medical Attempts at Mental Health in 14th Century England.

Congratulations to Dr. William Nelson, Reese Library, and his wife Julia, on the birth of a grandson. William Jeffrey Sims, 7 lb. 8 oz., was born January 27, in Birmingham, Ala., to Dr. Nelson’s daughter, Beth, and her husband, Jeffrey Dale Sims, Jr.
