Karen A. Mobley, formerly associate director of the Career Center, has been named director of Student Development, a new position created in Academic Affairs to enhance the learning experience of ASU students. Ms. Mobley will provide the leadership and guidance that this new position requires,” says Samuel Sullivan, vice president for academic affairs. “Her past experience in student services has given her a keen understanding of student development and its relationship to the academic experience of our students.” In this new position, Ms. Mobley will be responsible for the minority advising program and for leading the university’s efforts to increase the representation of African American males in higher education (which is also a University System initiative). Ms. Mobley joined Augusta State in 2002, after serving at Aiken Technical College as assistant director of admissions and records. Previously she served as an admissions and TRIO counselor at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, where she also received an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a master’s degree in education with emphasis in higher education. Ms. Mobley serves as advisor to ASU’s Gospel Ensemble and the ASU Nu Chapter Dance Team. She is a member of the 2005 Leadership Augusta class of the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Aiken County Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia, Southeastern, and National Associations of Colleges and Employers.
