Hines named Physical Plant Employee of the Year

Groundskeeper Alexander Hines has been named Physical Plant Employee of the Year at ASU. He was also recently named Physical Plant Employee of the Quarter for the third quarter.

“I was really excited about it,” says Mr. Hines. “I thank all the employees that really cared enough to vote for me.”

Each quarter, supervisors in the Physical Plant get together and look at nominations generated from employees in their divisions. A list is compiled and each employee is voted on by the supervisors using the following categories: quality of work, job knowledge, attendance, dependability, cooperation, initiative, quality of personality, fellowship, and attitude. A tally is taken, and the winner is declared the Physical Plant Employee of the Quarter.

“At the end of the year at our Christmas lunch, the Physical Plant employees vote on the Employee of the Year using only the four winners from the quarterly awards,” says Dave Freeman, assistant director of the Physical Plant.

Mr. Hines has been working at the university for nine years, first in the building services division and then the grounds division.

He says he loves being outside more than anything, which is why he loves his job so much. On a daily basis, his responsibilities include litter control, waste management, and pressure washing. In fact, he often participates in other grounds assignments and often volunteers for overtime events.
