ASU selects interim deans
Augusta State University's Pamplin College
of Arts and Sciences and college of education will undergo change this
summer with the installation of two interim deans.
Ronald
Weber, professor and interim department chair for clinical and professional
studies, was recently named acting dean for the college of education.
As acting dean, Webers plans for the college include increasing
enrollment, creating better relationships between faculty and students,
and conforming to the policy changes imposed by the Board of Regents.
Weber earned his doctorate from the University of South Carolina in reading
education, his Master of Education from Temple University in learning
disabilities, and his bachelors degree from State University of
New York at Oswego in secondary education.
Prior to joining ASU in 1978, Weber was a professor at Winthrop Colleges
school of education for eight years.
Weber replaces Robert Freeman who left ASU after serving eight years as
dean to become the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Glenville
State College in West Virginia.
The
arts and sciences department will see M. Edward Pettit Jr., become acting
dean at the end of the academic year, replacing Dean Elizabeth House.
Pettit's appointment began when House's resignation took effect July 1.
House is a professor of English in the Department of Languages, Literature,
and Communication.
Pettit, a professor of mathematics and computer science, has been at ASU
since 1977 and has served as associate dean since 1995.
Pettit earned three degrees in mathematics including a bachelor's degree
from the University of Oregon, and master and doctorate degrees from the
University of California, Riverside.
