ASU selects new sports information director

WarrenAugusta State University recently announced Joey Warren as the new sports information director. Warren comes to ASU from Georgia Southern University, where he was the assistant athletic media relations director for the past four years. In that capacity he was the primary publicist for the men’s basketball, women’s soccer, and men’s golf programs.

He has a bachelor’s degree in sports management with an emphasis in communications from GSU. Prior to that he was a sports writer for the Statesboro Herald, and a general assignment reporter for the Effingham Herald. He is an active member in the College Sports Information Directors of America, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and the Southern Conference Sports Media Association.

“I feel that Joey Warren brings tremendous ability and potential to our department,” said Clint Bryant, ASU director of athletics. “The past four years at Georgia Southern has prepared and groomed him well for the challenges and opportunities we face at ASU in sport media relations. He has a wealth of experience and we look forward to making him a part of our athletic family,” he said.

“I would also like to publicly thank Eva McGillivray for the job she has done as interim sports information director. She is to be commended for her services.”

Warren begins his new position July 8.
