Dr. Harris is no stranger to the country. He was a visiting professor at the University of Muenster from 1997-1998 and taught classes in American government and the American presidency to German students. It was also through his efforts that the European Union Studies certificate program, a join effort with the University of Munich (Germany), was originated. The course is part of the University System of Georgia's European Union Center. The program is designed to provide in-depth study of the European Union and the relationships between the EU, the United States, and other nations. Students who receive the certificate gain a competitive edge for careers in international relations, business, education, and many other professions. Dr. Harris also returned to Germany in May to present two papers, Russian Speaking Jewish Immigrants in the United States: Perspectives on Assimilation and Jewish Cultural Identity, at the conference 350 Years of American Jewry, 1654-2004, and Transcending the European Experience at the Bavarian Academy for Political Education in Tutzig, Germany.
