As chair of the committee, Dr. Nelson will help the ACRL develop guidelines for academic libraries, academic institutions, and accrediting agencies. He has an extensive background in the research of library standards and the accreditation process. ACRL, a division of the American Library Association, is a professional association of academic librarians and other interested individuals. It is “dedicated to enhancing the ability of academic library and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching, and research.” Dr. Nelson routinely presents at national and international conferences on the academic library accreditation process and assessment. Considered one of the field’s foremost experts, he is also the co-author of Standards and Assessment for Academic Libraries: A Workbook. He received bachelor of arts degrees in English and history from Centenary College of Louisiana as well as two master’s degrees—one in Latin American studies and another in library science—and a doctoral degree in Latin American studies, all from Louisiana State University. He has been a faculty member at ASU since 1993.
