INFORMATION FOR Prospective
Students
|
An information analyst in the Special Projects Office, Mr. Brown has worked at Augusta State since 2003. Not only is he responsible for implementing and maintaining the JagCard campus card program, but he’s also responsible for Banner and Crystal software training and support. “I maintain the JagCard, provide support, and introduce new features,” he says. “I hear students say that with the new ID card, it helps them feel like ASU is becoming a proper university, together with the excellent facilities we have now. I feel great to be a part of that process. There is so much potential that the ID card can be used for to make students’ lives easier, and I’m excited about that.” Mr. Brown’s hard work is being noticed. At ASU’s annual Employee Recognition Ceremony in May, he was presented the Staff Employee of the Year Award. “Receiving the award was such a surprise, and I was so proud to have been honored in that way,” he says. Overseeing the successful startup of the new ID card, Mr. Brown has shown exceptional leadership and organizational skills in implementing the JagCard program, says his supervisor, Mary P. Filpus-Luyckx. Mr. Brown has worked extremely well with others in various functions both inside and outside of ASU, she says. “Mark has spent the past year working on the JagCard project, and by the time it is fully implemented, the card will function as a student ID, allowing students, faculty, and staff to purchase books, refreshments, meals, photocopies, and more,” says Ms. Filpus-Luyckx. “Mark not only has the technical expertise to successfully architect a complex project such as the JagCard, but he also has the people skills to work with a team that includes personnel from the Medical College of Georgia, multiple vendors, and several departments on campus. He is absolutely dedicated to customer service and increasing student services.” Prior to coming to Augusta State, Mr. Brown was a senior customer engineer at Computacenter in London, where he provided support to international companies such as Merrill Lynch, J.P. Morgan Chase, First National Bank, Placement of Consignia (The Post Office Group), Pearson Television, Lloyds TSB Bank, William M. Mercer HR Consulting, Marsh, BNP Parisbas Bank, Metropolitan Police, and British Telecom. In his spare time, Mr. Brown loves to travel. “I have traveled a lot since I was very young and really enjoy going to new places,” he says. “I enjoy traveling with study abroad groups as it is always so rewarding to see the reactions of the students as they experience new things.” Mr. Brown received a bachelor’s degree with majors in business and French from the University of Surrey Roehampton in London. Through that university, he also studied at the Négocia International Business & Marketing School in Paris for one year, including one semester at Otterbein College in Ohio. He received two master’s degrees, one in information systems design from the University of Westminster in London, and the other in business administration from ASU. Who: Mark B.
