Former ASU standout Oliver Wilson embarked on his first professional major championship June 15 when he teed off in the U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Mr. Wilson is the fourth Augusta State golfer to have played in a professional major championship. Gary Murphy and David Park have combined for eight professional major stats, while Vaughn Taylor has played in three majors including the 1998 U.S. Open, the 2005 PGA Championship, and the 2006 Masters.

A three-time All-American at ASU, Mr. Wilson played his way into his first professional major championship on June 5 during U.S. Open sectional qualifying at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England. While Mr. Wilson is in his second season as a member of the European Tour, ASU’s Wallace Booth and former Jaguar standout Scott Jamieson also competed oversees in the British Amateur Championship held in Sandwich, Kent, England, in June.

Mr. Booth tied for 64th and Mr. Jamieson registered a tie for 52nd, both advancing to the match play portion of the championship.

A rising senior, Mr. Booth didn’t make it to the quarterfinals; however, Mr. Jamieson, an all-American as a senior for the Jaguars in 2004-05, advanced after beating four other golfers in the championship.
