ASU student-athletes honored
Augusta State University had 56 student-athletes named to the Peach Belt Conference’s 2007 Presidential Honor Roll, up from 49 in 2005-06. Student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA for the 2006-07 academic year are eligible for the honor.

“It’s certainly rewarding to see this many student-athletes not only meet their athletic goals, but their academic goals as well,” says ASU Director of Athletics Clint Bryant. “We’re constantly striving to increase our academic achievement and to find new ways to prepare and motivate our student-athletes to perform at their very best in the classroom as well as in athletic competition.”

Overall, 844 student-athletes from the 12 Peach Belt Conference-member institutions were cited for their academic excellence. The 844 is the highest total in PBC history, surpassing the previous record of 813 set in 2005. Ten of the 12 PBC schools, including Augusta State, increased their number of honorees.

Jags' Manning named All-American
Augusta State senior Major Manning has been named a PING All-America selection for the second time in his career.

A native of Daytona Beach, Fla., Manning posted the second-lowest, single-season stroke average in school history during the 2006-07 season at 71.29. Only Jamie Elson’s 71.11 stroke average during the 2000-01 season was lower than Manning’s.

Manning’s selection to the honorable mention squad marks the seventh All-American selection under ASU head coach Josh Gregory and the 15th All-America selection for the Jaguar men’s golf program since 1995. Manning was also named an All-American following his sophomore season in 2004-05 when he finished fourth in the NCAA Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., and helped lead ASU to a 10th-place finish.

Manning enjoyed a tremendous season, posting three top-10 and four top-20 finishes in seven events. Mr. Manning’s career stroke average of 73.23 ranks third all-time in school history, behind only Jamie Elson (71.92) and Oliver Wilson (72.05).

He made his pro debut at the NGA Hooters Tour’s Bentonville Open at Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in Rogers, Ark., on June 7.
