Ted Atkinson, English and foreign languages, participated in a panel on the author Larry Brown at the American Literature Association Conference in Boston, Mass. in May. He also presented a paper titled Redeeming Violence: Postmodern Masculinity in Larry Brown’s Father and Son.
Jurgen Brauer, Hull College of Business, chaired a session at the War and Poverty, Peace and Prosperity Conference, at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College, Annandale, in Hudson, N.Y.
Maria Daley, Career Center, gave birth to a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Daley, (19.5 inches long, 7 pounds and 7 ounces) on June 25.
Shelly Ford, communications and professional writing, presented Today’s Reality: Dealing with Isms and Phobias at the Savannah River Site.
Pamela Ferguson-Haggins, art, gave birth to a son Christopher Andrew Haggins II, (8 pounds and 5 ounces) on June 6.
Priscilla Hollingsworth, art, is participating in an exhibition at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art from June 15-July 27. Her work is on display in the main gallery.
Bill Nelson, Reese Library, presented the following full-day workshops: Assessment of Academic Library Effectiveness: Using ACRL Standards for Continuous Evaluation at Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, N.C., in May, and Library Assessment and Accreditation: Using ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education for the Panhandle Library Access Network in Tallahassee, Fla., on June 14.
He was selected by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) to serve as a mentor for an international librarian. He has been paired with an Egyptian librarian for the American Library Association conference in Washington, D.C. in June.
Dr. Nelson was also selected by the College Library Section of ACRL to be a "Research Coach," to mentor a librarian needing guidance with research and publication. He has been paired with a librarian from the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Brian Rust, art, will have his artwork, Rock, Paper, Scissors: Brian Rust, on exhibit at the Sumter County Gallery of Art in Sumter, S.C., from June 28-August 4.
Augusta State Director of Athletics Clint Bryant has been named the Division II Athletic Director (AD) of the Year for the Southeast Region. The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced the winners of the AstroTurf AD of the Year Award at their 42nd annual convention in Orlando, Fla.
Mr. Bryant, who has served for 19 years as ASU’s director of athletics, is a member of various committees with the NCAA, and was recently named to the Diversity Leadership Strategic Planning Committee. Most notable in his long-time record of service was his appointment to the chair of the NCAA Division II Management Council. Coach Bryant also held a seat on the NCAA Legislation Committee.
He currently serves as chair of the Division II Project Team Related to Issues of Diversity and he has previously spent time as a member of the Division II Budget and Finance Committee, chair of the Championships Committee, and the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee.
