ASU volunteers recognized
Students and teachers from Lamar Elementary School presented
a plaque May 7 to volunteers from Augusta State University.
The plaque was presented at the elementary school's annual awards ceremony. It
recognized the dedication and support that the Public Safety Department provided
the school through volunteer programs like reading to kindergarten students helping
with field day, the Parent-Teacher Association, and after school activities.
The department also donated basketball goals and a swing set to the school.
We spend an average of three hours per week at the school, said Jasper
Cooke, director of public safety. We try to provide positive role modeling
for the children at Lamar Elementary School.
Lamar is one of ASUs three adopted schools. Other adopted schools include
Tubman Middle School and Laney High School.
