Doris Turner, administrative specialist in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, was announced as the university’s Employee of the Year at ASU’s Employee Recognition Ceremony on May 4.

Ms. Turner was chosen for the award by the Staff Advisory Council from among three recipients of previous Employee of the Semester awards. She received nominations for the earlier award by Dr. Richard Harrison, acting dean of the College of Education, and Dr. Michael O’Connor, acting chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science.

Ms. Turner began working at ASU as an administrative secretary in the continuing education division in July 1991 and transferred to kinesiology and health science in 1996.

“I remember calling her after her interview with us and saying, ‘Doris, you have style, grace, and poise, and we want you to work for us,’” says Dr. Harrison. “Her job skills were such that I really respected what she could do.”

Dr. Harrison says her ability to see problems before they happen is one of the traits he most respects.

“She is very knowledgeable and attuned to what’s going on,” he says. “I have never worried about a task going uncompleted when Doris was working.”
