More than six years ago Mr. Hampton was working for the Board of Education in a similar position, but when he heard about an opening at ASU, he knew he had to make a change. “I came here because I knew that employees could take classes,” he says. “I wanted an opportunity to provide myself with a better education.” Though his busy schedule has kept him from the classroom since then, Mr. Hampton says that he has plans to begin classes soon. “I’m really interested in journalism,” he says. “I studied that a little in high school and got to work on the newspaper staff.” Time spent working at The Augusta Chronicle and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also inspired his love for the field. Outside of work, Mr. Hampton enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and a new addition to the family—a three-week old grandson. When he’s not spending time with his family, he can be found on a basketball court somewhere. “That’s one of the things I really enjoy doing,” he says. The native Augustan doesn’t, however, have plans of leaving ASU for the basketball court anytime soon. “I’m really dedicated to this university,” Mr. Hampton says. “I really love this campus.” Name: Delon Hampton Department: Physical Plant Native of: Martinez How long at ASU: 6 ½ years Family: Wife, Valerie; a daughter, and a son, and one grandson Outside of work, I enjoy: Playing basketball, playing with my new grandchild, and spending time with my family.
