Paulette Harris receives Women of Excellence Award
After reviewing more than 60 nominations for the Women of Excellence Award, the Girl Scouts Central Savannah River Area Council selected Paulette Harris as one of seven women to be selected to receive the honor.
"I received the award for my work in the field of education. I was very proud to be considered among those who are making a difference in the community," says Dr. Harris, the Cree Walker Professor of Education and director of ASU's Literacy Center.
Dr. Harris has been involved with efforts to improve literacy in the CSRA for many years. She is the founder of ASU's Literacy Center and last year oversaw the opening of two satellite centers in East Augusta and Thomson. Her activities with the CSRA Reading Council and Metro Augusta Literacy Council have touched thousands of people over the years.
Dr. Harris says that she was delighted to receive the award and to represent Augusta State. She was presented with a sculpture during last month's ceremony.
The Women of Excellence Awards honors outstanding women who provide a role model of achievement for girls.
