Barbara Coleman, Hull College of Business, had a senior marketing research class conduct secret shopper surveys of the bookstore and food services during spring semester. The reports were shared with university administrators.

Charles Jackson, educational leadership, counseling, and special education, made presentations to six fifth-grade classes at Stevens Creek Elementary School on How to Become a Teacher as part of the Career Day on Teaching in May.

Pam Lightsey, JagCard Office, was recognized at the Rotary District 6920 District Conference held in Savannah in May. Ms. Lightsey is the president of the Augusta South Rotary club which received the Small Club of the Year award.

E. Wayne Lord, educational leadership, counseling, and special education, has been elected to a five-year term on the Board of Directors of the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society.

Faculty and staff in the College of Education presented awards in honor and recognition for outstanding achievement and service at the college’s second annual luncheon. Julie Gray, certification officer, received the Staff Excellence Award; Judi Wilson, teacher education, received the Teaching Award; Barry Thompson, teacher education, received the Research Award; and Charles Jackson, educational leadership, counseling, and special education, received the Faculty Service Award. The award recipients were nominated by their colleagues.

Carolyn Ingraham, director of the continuing education division, and Quentin Kuyper, director of the Music Conservatory program, discussed Continuing Education’s professional development and personal enrichment programs, the Conservatory program, and Kid’s University on ASU Reports-On Air on May 27. The broadcast times are 6 a.m. on WAKB 96.9; 7 a.m. on WFXA 103.1 (Foxie 103); and 5:30 p.m. on WTHB 100.9.

Augusta State men’s basketball head coach Dip Metress was named the South Atlantic Region Coach Of The Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches in May. He was previously selected as the Peach Belt Conference’s Coach of the Year.

Louise A. Rice, associate professor emerita of reading, was named a Woman of Excellence by the Central Savannah River Council. She was one of eight honorees recognized by the council at an awards ceremony in May.

Communications faculty, staff, and students formed an ASU Walking for Life team that participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in May and raised almost $2,000 for the organization.

Jana Sandarg, English and foreign languages, and Carol Giardina, admissions, made a recent presentation at the annual meeting of NAFSA: Association of International Educators in Minneapolis.

The Golden Apple Awards program held by WJBF-TV during May in the Maxwell Theatre had three ASU participants. Richard H. Harrison and Peggy Ruth Geren, College of Education presented awards, and President William A. Bloodworth, Jr., made a special presentation to Paine College President Shirley Lewis.

Katherine Sweeney, admissions and registrar, served as a judge in the Augusta Chronicle’s Best and Brightest awards program for outstanding high school seniors.

Rob Foster, music, performed a program titled Bamboo, Bebop and Beyond at the Common Grounds Coffeehouse of the Unitarian Universalist Church during May.

Julie Gray, College of Education, and Leslie Hosch, Testing and Disability Services, were winners in a drawing by the human resources department of faculty and staff updating emergency contact information in the web-based At Your Service system.

Clint Bryant, athletics, and Joseph Greene, ASU’s customer service champion, were honored by the 100 Black Men of Augusta, Inc. at their spring gala on May 19 with an award for Black Men Care.

Women’s tennis coach Michael McGrath has been named the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
