Steve Clements, communications and professional writing, will appear on the E! Channel’s True Hollywood Stories on Tuesday, June 9, at 5 p.m. Mr. Clements, executive producer and creator of the 1990’s version of the Mickey Mouse Club, will tell backstage stories and share his experiences working with Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling and singers Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears.
Mr. Clements also created and produced Hour Magazine with Gary Collins and Body by Jake. He was also a writer for Welcome Back, Kotter, Three’s Company, and Dinah!
In a recent community service project, the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work collected coats, linens, and other items for the Columbia County Family Connection. The donated items were given to the Least of These Souls, Inc. ministry that provides services to the homeless.
Business Operations reports that after a competitive bidding process, Sodexho won the contract for the operations of ASU’s food services for the next year with the option to renew for four additional years.
ASU’s Alumni Association will host ASU Night at the Greenjackets on June 7 when the team takes on the Savannah Gnats, beginning at 7:05 p.m. at the Lake Olmstead Stadium. Tickets are $6, which includes a group hat (valued at $15). Call the alumni office at 706-737-1759.
In the spirit of water conservation, campus fountains in the Arsenal Quadrangle and in front of the Maxwell Theatre will be turned off for the summer. The Blanchard Fountain at the main entrance will remain in operation.
The box office of the Maxwell Theatre has closed until the fall; however, event information for June may be obtained by calling 706-667-4100. The theatre will be closed during the months of July, August, and September for work on the air handling system. Staff will be available throughout the summer to answer questions and arrange bookings for 2007-08 events.
This summer Bruce Saul, biology, will lead 14 high school teachers in summer study of aquatic habitats throughout the state in a Mountains to Sea program. The two-week program, which begins in the streams of North Georgia and ends at St. Catherines Island on the coast, gives teachers hands-on opportunities to learn about water quality, aquatic organisms, and the importance of healthy streams. Critical environmental issues facing Georgia will be shared in this program that is funded by a Higher Education Improving Teacher Quality grant of the No Child Left Behind Act. This is the second year that Dr. Saul has conducted the summer program.
Ralph Walker, professor emeritus of political science, will teach a summer course in Southern politics at the University of Muenster, Germany. He will discuss the effects of the civil rights movement on the South and the South’s influence on national politics. This is the first time an ASU professor has taught at the German university and is part of a larger exchange program between the two universities arranged by Paul Harris, political science.
Art faculty are being featured in exhibitions in Augusta. At the Mary Pauline Gallery, Kristin Casaletto’s exhibition, Woodcuts, and Jennifer Onofrio’s, Dusk, will be on exhibit from June 15-July 21. An opening reception will be held June 15 from 5-8 p.m. On display through June 9 is an exhibition highlighting the career of Philip Morsberger, Morris Eminent Scholar Emeritus, and it includes his work from the 60s to the present. At the Morris Museum of Art is an exhibition, Philip Morsberger: A Passion for Painting, which will be on display through June 17.
