Interim Executive Director of USG Office of Economic Development named

Joy H. DeVries has been appointed interim executive director of the Office of Economic Development of the University System of Georgia.

The Office of Economic Development leverages the resources of the state’s 34 public colleges and universities to support Georgia’s economic development. The centerpiece of the USG’s economic development program is the Intellectual Capital Partnership Program (ICAPP), which provides one-stop entry to the intellectual capital of the System.

DeVries replaces Annie Hunt Burriss, former associate vice chancellor, who was named as Governor Sonny Perdue’s deputy chief of staff for policy, legislative affairs, and personnel.

DeVries has served as project manager for ICAPP since 2002; managed GeorgiaHire, one of three signature programs of the Office of Economic Development; and worked for the Georgia Institute of Technology, Apple Computer, and IBM.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association.
