Buffalo Soldiers

The Buffalo Soldiers gave a history lesson and horseback demonstrations Feb. 17 as part of ASU's Black History Month program.

The Buffalo Soldiers, which are African-American cavalry and infantry regiments, provided protection for crews building railroads. They also explored and mapped vast areas of the Southwest and strung hundreds of miles of telegraph lines.

Last year on Valentine's Day, professor of political science Ray Whiting gave professor of art Janice Williams an engagement ring and a marriage proposal in front of her humanities class. This year he continued the romance.
