Amphitheatre Update
By Brandi Freeman

amphitheatreThe Lyceum Series, A Day, operas, symphonies, and plays will soon be taking place in the D. Douglas Barnard Amphitheatre.

The developing construction project, designed by Therese Rosier, assistant vice president of the Physical Plant, and Toole Engineering is scheduled for completion by April 1, 2008.

The construction of the D. Douglas Barnard Amphitheatre was made possible through donations from friends of the former U.S. Congressman.  Mr. Barnard, an Augusta native and alumnus of ASU, was named Distinguished Alumnus by the ASU Alumni Association in 1965. He has a long history of public service, serving as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Georgia’s 10th District—which includes Augusta—from 1977 to 1993. He was the executive secretary to Georgia Governor Carl Sanders from 1963 to 1967 and a member of the Georgia Board of Transportation from 1966 to 1976.

A dedication of the amphitheatre will take place April 22.
