An Evening on Broadway
An Evening on Broadway will be presented on Tuesday, March 4, at 8 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. This one-night-only extravaganza of show tunes will showcase the ASU Opera Ensemble and student vocalists from all majors, under the direction of Patti Abasolo Myers, music faculty. Admission is free with a valid JagCard.

Honors Convocation
The top faculty and student awards will be presented at the annual Honors Convocation on Friday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. Highlighting the program will be the presentation of the Outstanding Teaching Award, the Richard S. Wallace Distinguished Service Award, and the Louis K. Bell Research Award.

P-16 Partner Conference
The Department of Teacher Education will host its annual Impacting Student Learning Partner School Conference on Saturday, March 15, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in University Hall. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The guest speaker will be Emily Jennette, the 2008 Georgia Teacher of the Year. Demonstrations of classroom lesson strategies will be presented by classroom teachers and ASU students. This conference is free and open to the public.

Pig Out on Campus
The massive cookout featuring chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, fries, and barbecue will be held on Wednesday, March 19, in front of the Jaguar Student Activities Center from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. To volunteer or for more information, call the Office of Student Activities at 706-737-1610.

News Briefs
Assistant Vice President for Physical Plant Therese Rosier recently received the Distinguished Service Award from the Board of Regents’ Facilities Office, a designation chosen by the vice chancellor.

Camilla Reid has been named co-recipient of a SirsiDynix-ALA-APA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Promoting Salaries and Status for Library Workers. Ms. Reid, associate director of the Reese Library, submitted a project proposal that may be used as a model for improving paraprofessional staff salaries within the library. She will be honored at a breakfast at the American Library Association Annual Conference in June in Anaheim, Calif.

The Reese Library has been selected to receive the Institute of Museum and Library Services Bookshelf. ASU’s library is among the first to receive this set of resources. The IMLS is the primary source of federal funding of the nation’s museums and libraries.

Kim Davies, chair of the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work, will have two well-known victim rights activists, Mr. Gordon and Mrs. Elaine Rondeau, founders of the Renee Olubunmi Rondeau Peace Foundation, as guest speakers in her class on murder March 24 and 25.

Wayne Lord, Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education, has been appointed by the National Association for Gifted Children to serve on a task force (NCATE Teacher Education Standards Committee) that will develop strategies and resources for professional development based on the NCATE SPA Standards for Gifted Education.

The JagCard Office has moved to Room 236, 2nd Floor, in the JSAC.
