Army ROTC cadet from ASU receives national award
An Army ROTC cadet from Augusta State University recently joined senior U.S.
government officials at a National Security Seminar in Lexington, Va.
Cadet Lynn Saldana earned the opportunity to participate in the event by being
the top Army ROTC cadet at ASU. While in Lexington, she interacted with the key
leaders in attendance and discussed a variety of issues directly bearing on national
security.
Saldana is a senior majoring in sociology. While at ASU, she has assembled an
impressive list of accomplishments including serving as the ROTC Cadet Battalion
Commander and being named to the 2002 Deans List.
She is an outstanding leader now and will make an outstanding lieutenant,
said Lt. Col. David Freeman, professor of military science and ASU ROTC battalion
commander. Saldana will receive her commission following her graduation in December,
Freeman said.
In an internationally broadcast speech from last years event, President
George W. Bush noted the importance of the seminar and commended the cadets selected
for the honor.
I want to congratulate the winners of the George C. Marshall ROTC Award,
the more than 260 young men and women who represent the best of our country and
the best future for the United States Army. You stand out among the nearly 30,000
young Americans who are today enrolled in the Army ROTC; the officers who will
serve in the military of the future, and one day lead it, Bush said.
