History Walk dedicated
 |
A dedication ceremony for the new History Walk was held
April 24 at the newly renovated Guardhouse museum. William A. Bloodworth, Jr.,
president, Kathy Hamrick, special coordinator for academic and master planning,
and Christopher Murphy, professor of anthropology, all made remarks, introducing
the walk, before the ribbon cutting.
Students from history and education dressed in period costumes furnished from
drama to add nostalgia to the event. Other activities included music, old-time
snack concessions, and the unveiling of historic markers along the walk.
The Guardhouse History Museum, located at the corner of Walton Way and Katherine
Street, is the anchor of the History Walk. The History Walk, a $1.5 million project,
includes a decorative brick and wrought iron wall with rest areas and interpretative
historic displays that depict the history of ASU, the Augusta Arsenal, and the
Summerville and Sandhills districts.
The walk extends from the Guardhouse along Walton Way to Arsenal Avenue. Future
plans have the walk extending along parts of Katherine Street and Arsenal Avenue.
The entire walk should be finished by early fall. More
