Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week is May 1-5
To show appreciation for the hard work of faculty and staff across campus, Augusta State will celebrate its first Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week, May 1-5. Highlighting the week will be a breakfast for those faculty and staff who will be honored at the annual recognition program for service anniversaries. There will also be daily prize drawings as part of the week’s activities.
“The special week recognizes the continuing effort and commitment of our extraordinary faculty and staff," says President William A. Bloodworth, Jr. “Our university is only as good as the work of its faculty and staff. This week is a special way for us to say 'thank you' to all of those whose work constantly adds value to the lives of our students and our community,” he says.
The week of activities was planned by a campus-wide committee of faculty and staff chaired by the vice president for business operations, Dan Whitfield. “We wanted to create opportunities for faculty and staff to come together with their colleagues from across campus,” he says. “We’ve planned some fun activities with opportunities to socialize as well as to be recognized for service.”
The week begins with the president and vice presidents serving refreshments to faculty and staff and ends with a Fun Friday where music and dance will be featured. The annual Retirement and Recognition ceremony on Thursday, May 4, will honor service anniversaries of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 35 years as well as those who have or are retiring this year. Retirees being honored include James Bickert, associate professor of biology; Mary Kathleen Blanchard, professor of French; Willie Clay, automotive shop supervisor; Mary Lisko, assistant dean of the College of Business Administration; Lester Pollard, assistant professor of English; Joseph Greene, Cree Walker Professor of Business Administration; Jack Widener, dean of the College of Business Administration; Don O’Neal, director of personnel; and Harold Rushing, public safety dispatcher.
"We hope everyone will participate in the week’s activities,” says Mr. Whitfield. "We want all of our faculty an staff to know how much we appreciate what they do.”
