Last Cents

Last year, dozens of people crowded into a downtown establishment
to see the first Mini Cine Film Festival presented by Rick Pukis, professor of
communications. The festival showcased films of several communications students.
Now hes ready to do it again. On Thursday, Nov. 20, Professor Pukis will
present Mini Cine 2 downtown at The Bees Knees. This year there will be
three showings of the films instead of one, beginning at 7 p.m.
Itll be nice to have three showings; there will be a different crowd
for each showing, says Professor Pukis.
Professor Pukis plans on showcasing the talents of current and past students.
He will also present some of his films and films from people in the community.
One of the highlights of the festival will be a premiere of The
Last Cents, a 5-minute DVD made by senior communications major Jerome
Manley, along with 15 other ASU students, for a national DVD-making competition.
ASU was one of 20 schools nationwide chosen to compete in the competition sponsored
by Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. Professor Pukis hopes that the Mini Cine Film
Festival will become an annual event in Augusta. I want to give an outlook
for films at ASU and the community and for people who have a passion for films,
he says.
The first showing will begin at 7 p.m., with 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. showings following.
The Bees Knees is located at 211 10th St. Admission is free to the festival.
The event is open to the public. For more information, call the Department of
Languages, Literature, and Communications at 737-1500.
