ASU hosts Atlanta Film Festival

The 2003 Atlanta Film Festival is making its way to Augusta. Rick Pukis, professor of communications, arranged for ASU to host the annual event on Friday, Nov. 7, in room W1002 Science Building.

“I think it will be a great exposure for people to see something they haven’t seen before,” says Professor Pukis.

The films to be shown include Terminal Bar, by director Stefan Nadelman. The 22-minute film was a winner of the 2003 Atlanta Film Festival Grand Jury prize and is about the old timers, winos, junkies, drag queens, and crooks who frequented Terminal Bar, one of the toughest, grittiest bars in Manhattan. Another of Mr. Nadelman’s films, Tourist Pictures, will also be shown.

Other films include Dreamscapes, a 5-minute digital animation about a collection of dreams that are put to visuals; The F.E.D.S., a film about food education demo specialists (the F.E.D.S.) who struggle to keep their perky attitudes intact; Street of Pain, an 11-minute story about bullies who beat up classmates in gym class; Never Date An Actress, a film about a good-natured guy who discovers that actresses can be melodramatic and self-centered; Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness, a 14-minute parody of politics in today’s world; Tom Hits His Head, an 11-minute comedy about a man who hits his head and becomes agoraphobic; Shadowman, about a young girl who becomes friends with two men she sees breaking into a house; Eve, a bizarre retelling of the Adam and Eve story in the tradition of early silent film.

The film festival begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in W1002 Science Building. Admission is free. For more information, call the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communications at 737-1500.
