Annual fund drive exceeds goals

The 11th annual A Day for Augusta State University campaign drew to a close during October, exceeding goals and dispelling any expectation that the economy might adversely impact the annual fund drive.

“This year’s campaign exceeded expectations, with more than $432,000 being raised,” says Ms. Ginger Chew, director of the annual fund. “We’re fortunate to enjoy amazing support from friends in the CSRA and in having exceptional leadership in both the community and campus campaigns.”

The community campaign, chaired by David “Deke” Copenhaver, ’91, began just as the campus campaign was ending. Dr. Jim Garvey, professor of English, chaired the campus campaign that raised more than $122,000, with 81 percent of faculty and staff making or pledging contributions to the campaign.

The culmination of A Day activities was the Alumni Association’s annual barbecue, at which the fundraising totals were announced. The barbecue committee was chaired by Wes Zamzow.

The annual fund drive raises funds to support such projects as the Cullum Lecture Series, special technology and equipment projects, employee events, faculty and staff development, scholarships, and more.
