Employee Incentive Program encourages education

Employee Incentive ProgramThe Augusta State University Educational Incentive Program (EIP) was established to encourage Augusta State University personnel to further their education. The EIP is funded by private donations through the Augusta State University Foundation. Employees who qualify for the EIP will receive semester tuition, contingent upon the availability of funds and on the conditions outlined herein. The maximum EIP tuition grant for any approved course is $388.00 for undergraduate and $468.00 for graduate. Funds are available for 7 grants. Please remember the EIP is granted through a lottery and depends on the availability of funding.

Any regular employee (benefit eligible) of Augusta State University with a work commitment of 50% or more and employment tenure of at least one year by the university’s first day of class on January 10, 2005 may apply to participate in the EIP for the Spring Semester, 2005. An employee who receives a scholarship or a need-based financial aid award is eligible for an EIP tuition grant only to defray that part of the tuition that is not covered by the financial aid package.

Augusta State University course work may be for either credit or non-credit courses, and must be leading toward the first baccalaureate degree or master’s degree, or related to the employee’s job. Course work not meeting these criteria cannot be accepted under the EIP. An employee must meet all Augusta State University admission requirements prior to applying for the EIP if the intent is to take a credit course.

The supervisor must sign the application before it can be processed. Completed applications for the Spring Semester will be accepted in the Personnel Office from November 1 – November 10, 2004. You can send your application by mail or bring it to the Personnel Office, but it must be received in the Personnel Office by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2004. When an application is received, it will be assigned a number. On November 11th, 9 numbers will be drawn, 7 for the grants and 2 alternates. Applicants will receive notification on the status of their application no later than November 12th.

CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSE:

Any regular employee, regardless of the length of service, may attend job-related Continuing Education courses, as determined by the appropriate supervisory authority, at no or reduced tuition charge on a space available basis. A small supply fee may be applicable. An employee, after receiving written approval from his/her supervisor, should register with Continuing Education.

EIP eligible employees who wish to take a job-related Continuing Education course through EIP may apply for the EIP at any time during the year. Approval will be granted if the funds are available.

An employee awarded an EIP grant for a Continuing Education course must submit a copy of the Continuing Education application and the balance of any fees to the Business Office before the course payment deadline.

TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:

To be eligible, you must be a full-time employee of ASU, have been employed for six months, and be benefits eligible. Under the TAP program, you will be eligible for up to eight (8) academic semester credit hours. The TAP policy and form can be found online at www.usg.edu/admin/humres/benefits/tuition/. Please read the policy before completing the form. Unlike the EIP, there are several steps that you will need to complete before the forms can be processed. The Employee Registration date is January 10 and 11, 2005. Please submit the new TAP form to the Personnel Office by November 15, 2004.
